BBC iPlayer coming to Windows Phone says Nokia

Article by on Monday, 28 May 2012

Yes the Windows Phone Marketplace is a little behind Apple’s App Store and Google Play in terms of quantity of apps, but Nokia’s Stephen Elop – for one – stresses that quality is more important than quantity. And one quality pp that definitely IS missing is the BBC iPlayer.

While there are some pretty big holes, one in particular sounds set to be plugged pretty soon, in the shape of BBC iPlayer.

At the Nokia Lumia 610 launch in London last week Nokia’s own PR people told The Inquirer that iPlayer will arrive “within the next few weeks”.

Sky Go for Windows Phone, however, is thought to be “a good few months” away yet.

From the same event Microsoft’s sultry Leila Martine told attendees that the marketplace is growing at over 100 apps a day, a growth rate that dwarfs the App store and Google Play store.

It may be a slow starter, but Windows Phone is showing real promise, especially with quality handsets like the Lumia 900 on the horizon.
