RIM may license BlackBerry 10 to other OEMs
For the last half a year maybe there have been talks that RIM, the guys who make the Blackberry handsets may attempt to keep semi-afloat by licencing their Blackberry 10 OS to other manufacturers.
Thorsten Heins hinted as much when he was formally introduced as RIM’s new CEO in January, and once again we’re getting similar twitters.
In January he said:
“if it makes sense strategically and tactically,”
During an earnings conference call, Heins said:
“whether we build the hardware ourselves or whether we engage in partnerships is part of the review, we’ll keep you updated once that is completed.”
Is it too little too late? clutching at straws? I hope not.
Blackberrys had and still have a niche in the market, once people start choosing phones again for functionality over fashion we’ll see that.
