Giffgaff gets wet, major network outage ensues
Giffgaff, a company known for doing things a little differently had a bad day yesterday.
A major service outage hit the network taking almost 8 hours to fix.
This outage effected calls, texts and data failed completely from around 9am and didn’t come back on until just before 7PM.
The company has added a blog post which details “water damage to the computer network at our data centre”.
It seems that networking kit at the DC got wet and this caused the issues.
At most data centres security is paramount and water certainly cannot be just brought into server rooms and so we suspect air conditioning is to blame, or other structural issues.
Here’s a MGP get well soon to the network (we sure know what server issues feel like)
