Default Installing Theme Tutorial....Simple Walkthrough

Right after being on this site only a few days iv seen that many people are joining up and asking how to install themes on their phone....i was one of them

Some people would call us noobs for not knowing others would point us in the general direction to find the tutorial...

Anyways after finding out how to do it and then completing it myself i realised how easy it is to do.

As a result of this i have decided to create a "simple as" walkthrough that everyone can understand

What Will I Need?

One Viewty...
One USB Cable....
EFS Media Builder...
Theme Manager v3.0...(i used v2.6 but this is the new one)

Where Can I Get These?

Wel i hope you have the phone and usb cable yourself otherwise theres no point in reading this lol

Theme Manger ..... http://kuntz.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/thememanager3.0.rar

(click the link and it should automaticly download)

EFS Media Builder ..... http://rs78.rapidshare.com/files/315...6.rar:116ywrgv

(click the "free" button and youl be able to download then"

Backing Up Your Phone

http://www.ku990.co.uk/forum/showthr...ghlight=backup

there is a list of back up firmwares for the viewty..(there is a thread about backing up the phone but iv lost it if you dont make a backup you can use one of these (must be the same network as yours...im on orange so i would use the orange firmware)

this link here shows u how to do the TOTO version of backing up your phone. (your phone has to be in data mode to connect to EFS)

http://mcassen.free.fr/How%20to%20ba...ty%20files.pdf

Loading Theme Manager v3.0 to phone via EFS. it is best to save theme manager to the yout memory card as it saves room on the phone then.

Your phone has to be in data mode to connect to EFS

Load u efs simply by double clickin the program ...window should look like this..

then you need to connect your phone, press efs exploring in the top right corner and youl get a screen like this...

click the box in at the top of the new screen and then click connect ( it refreshes every 5secs to dont take your time)

1) Using EFS Media Builder navigate to "LGAPP/Media/swf/".

2) Drag and Drop "widget2.swf", "widget4.swf" and any custom NYX files to this location. (this bit i didnt do, it just lets you alter things like the clocks)

3) Now with EFS navigate to "LGAPP/Media/swf/theme".

4) Drag and Drop "theme_bg2.swf" to this location.

5) Click Disconnect and press YES at the pop-up, then close efs

Once the Viewty reboots disconnect the usb cable....

4) Change from "Data Mode" to "Mass Storage Mode" on the Viewty by going to the relevant options on the handset.

5) Once in mass storage mode connect to the PC via the usb again and open up the memory card folder. (should pop up automaticaly on most pcs)

6) Drag and Drop the "Themes" folder onto the Memory Card/Removable Storage.

7) Disconnect phone from PC and go through the handset options and activate the Silver theme (2nd from top).

8) Navigate though the handset options and activate the Dual Clock (this bit im assuming is to do with the editing of clocks, although i dont do this)

Now Once this has all been done you can disconnect the phone and set the themes...how?

Loading Theme

Double press the "C" button (between the green call and the red endcall buttons on your phone"

this brings up the themes manager menu. use the left/right arrows to move

Themes menu...shows u the list of themes you can use.

Clocks menu...brings up the clocks that you can use

Settings menu...modify certain things on the themes, like swappin between colourd or black icons.

To close the themes manager simply press "C" twice again.

And Thats its!!!

any problems with the themes you will need to post in the theme manager thread

Disclaimer....incase anyone says. i comprissed this tutorial using information from other threads and tutorials. it is easier to have it all in one place for people to see. thanks for all your hard work in creating the themes, tutorial on the programs etc etc

This works a treat!
Can I just add, if you have a T-Mobile branded viewty then once you've completed the steps above, select the T-Mobile theme and then press the 'C' button twice.

I have highlighted the contents RED to make sure you don’t miss out any important steps and instructions.

Before starting, always make a back up of your original firmware files! I assume that you have knowledge to use the EFS media build program and will not have a tutorial on that.

Step 1. Connect phone via efs/media builder.
Step 2. Rename LGAPP to TOTO.
Step 3. Click REFRESH and then CLICK disconnect phone and it will ask you to restart your phone, click yes.
Step 4. Once phone has restarted, a YELLOW screen with refreshing screen should appear, your good!
Step 5. Navigate to TOTO folder and within that folder, should have Media folder.
Step 6. Delete Media folder.
Step 7. Assuming you have downloaded the choice of your firmware and have extracted the contents, you should be able to continue without a problem.
Step 8. Now To prep your new firmware files.
Step 9. You should have a backup of your original firmware, navigate to Media/flex. You should see a file called FLEX.INI.
Step 10. COPY and paste that flex.ini to the NEW firmware of your choice and paste it into Media/flex foler.
Step 11. Now you can copy the MEDIA folder of your new firmware into the phone. This should take at least 25 minutes
Step 12. Once finished, Rename TOTO folder back to LGAPP, click refresh and CLICK disconnect and click Yes for phone to restart.
YOU should have the new updated firmware as of now! BUT!!Now the test! If your phone went swell and no problems with it, reconnect using same method and follow steps 1-4.
Step 13. Now copy your NEW firmware’s PXO files to your phone, yes OVERWRITE it, no need to delete it from phone first.
Step 14. Once it has copied, follow Step 12.
IF, your phone went well and touchscreen works, your good to go.
IF your phone keeps RESTARTING without you pressing any buttons, etc etc. you must RECOPY your BACKUP of PXO file back into the phone, and you should be okay!

When I make 12 step my phone restarting and then touchscreen don't work... Why? What I have done wrong?
Thanks...
