[PC SMS Software] SMS Taskbar

[ElectLG]

I wanted a application that could quickly send SMS via Bluetooth to my Viewty. The querty keypad is quite good on the Viewty, but nothing beats the computer keyboard. So SMSTaskbar is a solution to the lack of SMS possibilities with the LG PC Suite.

It's build for efficiently send SMS messages without getting in the way.

Things it does

• Stays hidden in the system tray with no Bluetooth (or Serial cable) connection active until you send an SMS (phone battery friendly)
• Contacts can be imported from separate VCF's or the LG Contacts Backup File
• Saves all outgoing messages
• Has a wizard that guides your through the settings

Main screen; Overview of your phone contacts, send messages. Click on someone's PhoneNumber and you'll be able to SMS him in directly


Hidden away. But doubleclick on the icon and you can send an SMS directly to someone. Rightmouse click shows the menu.


Type in the letters of a name, and when it finds an exact match in your phonebook, it'll add the number automatically


Configuration


These are the settings when you manually want to edit them.
When you start for the first time, the wizard will guide you through the settings with enough information to understand what you are doing

The Message Center (SMS Center) is different per provider. But if the Wizard couldn't find your Message Center on the phone, you can always find your number here:
On your viewty > Menu > Messages > Settings > Text Message center > it's the number you find there



Import your LG Contacts Backup file

• [1]On the Viewty, goto Menu > Contacts > Settings > Backup contacts
  [2]Copy the file on your external memory (sits in External Memory/Others) to your computer
  [3]Open SMSTaskbar, goto File > Import VCF's > 'Import LG Contact Backup file'
  [4]Check if it's right and press 'Save as Primary'

If you want to import the LG PC Suite contacts / separate VCF contacts (start at point 3) ;

• [0]Create a folder somewhere, on your desktop or something
  [1]Open the LG PC Suite and the Contact Manager
  [2]Select all your contacts, goto File > Save VCF
  [3]Open SMSTaskbar, goto File > Import VCF's > 'Import VCF's From Folder'
  [4]Check if your contacts are right, and press 'Save as Primary PhoneBook'
  [5]Restart the application

- SMSTaskbar automatically checks for updates if your online.

- Error handling with testing if the COM port works. Normally the application would've died
- Finetuned a lot for a better experience. Windows now start properly minimized, focus on windows is correctly restored etc. Things I didn't want to do until it worked as I liked.

Note:
It isn't possible for anyone except LG to get Viewty SMS Inbox on a computer screen. I've also tried to add an SMS notification when you receive an SMS. But it's all not supported by LG. I've spend too many hours trying and nothing worked. So this is not the goal of SMS Taskbar.

Same as me. Used the program a lot to SMS, but LG never had this kind of software.

By the way, how did you find out how to communicate with the phone? Are you using some sort of standard Bluetooth "commands" or are you actually using LG's "codes"?

Had to use the normal Serial Port commands (so called AT commands), used by a lot of Mobile Comunnication programs. Every phone should support them all, but only a fraction is supported by the Viewty. I never found out the LG codes, that's why the ViewtyManager never worked..

But this works quite nice. Next thing to do is to save the outgoing messages

Updated to version 0.12. Added;

• Lists all available COM ports of the computer. No manual searching anymore..
• Get the MessageCenter directly from phone with the press of a button.

Was working on the indication for a new SMS, but the Viewty gave me back an error CMS 303. Googled it and found another great feature missing;

CMS 303 error means that your phone does not support New SMS Message Notification.

Although I'm very pleased with SMSTaskbar at the moment, I'm not really sure what other functions I can build in.. Most of them are not available
