I went into Carphone Warehouse today and asked them... they didn't have a clue. The got a new phone out and tried it and it didn't work on that either

I emailed Samsung and this is their reply:

Enter birthdays in the contact details where the cake symbol is to have them displayed by the widget. They won't show if you've imported them from another device or MS Outlook.

That didn't work for me. I transferred all my contacts from my old phone and originally the widget worked. Then one day it stopped showing any birthdays. I deleted them, re-added them and even deleted all my contacts completely and tried again but no luck.

On the 1st Jan 09 it started working again. Very weird.

Mine works so well that even the contacts i don't have birthdays for (business, etc) lit up on 01\01\09.

That's when mine started working again, showing all the ones that don't have proper birthdays added.
