Whats the best 8 megapixel camera phone on the market?

Hi Guys,

I currently own a viewty and although it can be seen as abit of a marmite phone (you love it or hate it), I have loved owning it. I am a month away from my ugrade and I am looking for an 8 megapixel camera phone.

I am automatically drawn to the LG Renoir, because of my love for the viewty. But I don't want to miss out on a cracking handset due to my blinkers!

A must for my camera phone is a macro setting, as I take lots of close up shots.

So what do you guys suggest? What are the best deals?

The new tocco ultra will be out by then is it much cop? And the Omnia hd? Any more new handsets on the horizon worth waiting for?

Im going to be honest here.
8MP on a camera phone is overkill.

5MP is perfectly fine since you probably will use small prints anyway. Also, its all about the sensor in the phone.

You can have a 8MP camera with a crap sensor that gives terrible picture quality, or you could have a 5MP camera with a great sensor and gives outstanding image quality.

As for the Viewty, i think it was hit or miss. Some people got great shots, others didn't.

Heres on I took back in 2007 with the Sony Ericsson K800i 3.2 MP camera:



Compared to this one taking on the Viewty on a perfectly clear day:



Just wait a while for a new phone such as the HTC Touch 2 to come out and then buy a proper camera if you like photography.

You won't beat a proper camera. Here's my G10 in macro mode




EDIT: The reason the Viewty shot is smaller is due to the compression via Photobucket. The original image is much bigger but was over 1mb. As you can see, the SE shot is much sharper

I use my camera to take macro shots of nails (im a mobile nail tech), I want crisp close up images. I am looking for my phone to do this as I carry enough kit with me in my working day. I don't want to have to carry a camera too!

I've been doing a little research this week.

Ive finally had a play with the Renoir and I think as it feels so similar to the viewty, I may get bored with the next 18 months.

The new cube interface on the LG's does nothing for me Daz! A little too Iphone-esq for my liking.

I'm leaning towards the Omnia Hd at the moment. Does anyone have any more info on the release date? I asked the guys at the carphone warehouse and they were clueless!

The only other phone that has made me drool is the Idou, but I think it isn't due out untill the end of the year.

Tbh jo dont get any lg phones get a iphone or a htc because face it they are gonno last longer and keep u interested for longer and i have a renoir N its soooo boring i sit there and read instead ..lol?

I'm very much against iphones. I'm not even tempted! I honestly think that the only thing that is unique to the iphone is the logo!

Thats why i'm not into the new lg operating system.

Hold up. Palm Pre Jo.

Its he best there is, or is likely to be for a long time. Truely awesome.

Other than that: Touch Pro 2, Omnia HD, Bold Curve 8900, possibly nvidea / asus handsets if they actually come into fruition.

They're the only other phones I'd contemplate. The Pre is right at the top though.

It'll give me more options to look into. I've not heard of a couple of those handsets.
