Default Step by step guide to removing the operator logo from your Viewty's desktop.

Hello,

I am not responsible for any damage you may cause to your phone by using this guide; all I know is that it worked for me so just trying to share the love.

I am relatively new to Viewty hacking and I have been extremely annoyed with the fact that I have a browser link on my desktop (misclicking it 3 times a day didn’t make it any less annoying) so I figured I’d try to remove it.
I saw some other tutorials but the ones I found seemed to involve different pieces of software that with all due respect I feel a bit reluctant to trust (No offense, I just like doing things myself. No pun intended).
A program that I have learned to enjoy is the EFS explorer.
I do not know if this will work on all phones but it worked on mine like a charm.

Let’s dive right into the good stuff.

What you will need:
An LG Viewty (What’s the point otherwise?)
A USB cable to connect your phone to your computer
The EFS explorer here’s a download link: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2ADSFEK3

If you like your phone, you may feel the need to make a back up. Personally, I think that it’s always good but if you follow this step by step I don’t think there’s a real need to back up your WHOLE phone or even the whole LGAPP folder.

Start by moving your phone to Data mode in the USB connection. You do this by going to the Viewty menu (The four dots), going to the lowest tab, taping Phone settings, Connectivity, USB connection mode, and here you need to tap Data Service (note that the USB cable has to be disconnected while you make the change). It should say waiting for a few seconds and than save with a nice V.

Open the EFS explorer, and hit the EFS Files explorer button (Right of File, top left) it should find your phone automatically and tick the V box next to it. If not, make sure there’s a V at Auto search and put one if there isn’t. Now click Connect.

Congrats, you now have access to your phone’s “hidden” files.

Just a small explanation, the top explorer is your phone, and the bottom one is your computer.

Note: The next step will brick your phone for a bit but no worries; we’ll fix it before we leave.

In your phone section (Top file explorer), you should see a folder named LGAPP; this is where all the juicy stuff is so naturally we’ll be messing with it. Start by renaming it (Can’t edit it when it’s called LGAPP since I’m pretty sure the phone’s accessing it constantly). I find the name TOTO quite appropriate (Stole it from the first EFS guide I have ever read) but whatever you choose will work, just make sure you remember it (I'd keep it simple).
So right click LGAPP, Rename and type whatever name you choose and hit enter (I suggest TOTO). Right click again and hit refresh. (Your phone will now be bricked, if you click the unlock key or something on your phone it should show a yellow screen that says Refreshing).

(Small bug): Sometimes it won’t explore the folder and might tell you the phone is disconnected. The first time this happened to me I almost had a heart attack (Literally, I was gasping for air) but do not worry. Just Disconnect and reconnect (DO NOT TOUCH THE USB CABLE, I mean through the program) Click Disconnect and than connect, tic your phone, same routine as before.

Now, enter the TOTO folder (Renamed LGAPP), in there, go to Media – Common. In here, find the Idle folder (This is the one we’ll be modifying so I do suggest backing up this one and here’s how to do it:
Go to the bottom explorer (Your computer), find a location that you’re comfortable with, right click the Idle folder (On your phone) and click Read. A window should pop up and copy it, wait till it closes and check the folder you chose. If it’s there, you have your tiny back up.

What I did to make sure that this will work is simply get into the Idle folder I had on my computer and open the .bmp file or whatever that was in there. If it’s your operator logo, you’re golden, if not I have no idea what will happen to your phone.

In my case, there was only one image file, when I opened it the despised operator logo filled my computer screen so I realized I was in the right place.

Now get back to the EFS explorer, open the Idle folder (the one on your phone, top explorer), right click the logo (Only one file on my phone so was easy to find) it was called browserIcon.bmp but I guess the name will vary. Right click it and hit Delete.

That’s it, you have deleted the operator logo, congratulations, you stuck it to the man!

Only a few steps left to transform your phone from a very expensive brick into something slightly more friendly. Using the window on the top left (Scroll bar on its right side) go back the main folder (At the top of the list there should be a / next to a folder icon. Click it. Now you’re back to the top folder of your phone. Find the renamed LGAPP folder (TOTO if you took my suggestion), right click it, Rename, type LGAPP, hit enter, right click, Refresh.

Now hit disconnect (Between the 2 explorer windows on the left), it will ask if you want to reset your phone, click yes.
Wait for your phone to restart and Voila, your desktop is now clear!
Enjoy, and constructive comments will be much appreciated.

Yes, I realize that I'm replying to myself, but I just thought of a major advantage of this method: It's reversible. If you rewrite the operator logo to the Idle folder the link will come back to your desktop so it can look like you never messed with your phone in case you need your warranty.

Well, I know this is a rather old topic, but i can't locate the folder 'Idle' where the operator logo should be.

It simply doesn't show up.

Can anyone tell me where the ugly logo is hidden so i can delete it forever!
