Default LG announce $14000 "Design a touch-screen UI" competition

Thought this might be interesting for some of you Theme designers...

Taken from Gizmondo today...

Quote:
Design LG's Touchscreen Phone UI Theme, Win $14,000

LG's in the midst of revamping their touchscreen UI, possibly because their previous touchscreen phones weren't all that great, but possibly because...ok that's probably the reason.

Not only is the Korean company looking internally at their own designers to fix the problem, but they've offered a 14 million Korean Won prize ($14,364) to the community for someone to come up with a UI theme that's good enough for engineers to work with.

The submission above, although quite nice looking, is a bit too cluttered to be useful in our opinion. What would you say to your grandma that's trying to make a call? "It's right there, next to the steampunk valve and the gear icon?"

Typical of LG getting paying customers to do their dirty work, i doubt LG can get to the office without a compass and map.

As for the reward, once one of these actual talented designers (from this site) decides to make a awesome design and LG flog it off for millions then $14000 will change under the sofa!

The cheek of LG, how have to admire it really

Yes, saw this on engadget last week... Notice how the competition was not announced over here... and the winning design just plain sucks !

Software revisions (V10a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h etc) are NOT updates but different Brandings! Swapping them will lose operator functions like MMS, internet etc! If you are unsure, don't do it!

Wow..what a bag of sh!t.

Im doing an interface design course at Uni and I can see about 10 things wrong with that straight away.

Funny thing is, the things I have learnt are what companies put to practise....obviously not LG.

For a start..whats that button above the phonebook?

$14k that's £7k, hhmmm talk about cheap.

Just shows how much they think it's worth.

A talented AS developer will ask for £50-70+ per hour, so you have 100 team man hours, a team of 3-4 would be a good sized team. Not including technical project managers and a couple of C/BREW devs.

Breaking it down, you have that team for about £265 per hour, so you have the whole team for approximately three days......

Please use the wiki, it has all the info you need and saves a lot of time, both yours and ours.

I have turned off PMs yet again! Anyone would think I had been paid to post here!

Due to the raise workload and expected short but intense support requirements, vuite is cancelled. LG have dropped the viewty like a hot potato, don't blame us.
