800x480 videos

I've worryingly read on a few websites that its been reported that the Arena cannot play divx or xvid at 800x480 resolution despite that being the native screen resolution. Some even reporting it won't play videos any higher than qvga. Surely this isn't true is it?! Has anyone tested it for this yet? It'd be a critical mistake if that were so, like trying to play sd video on a hd screen

Hi,

due to the actual firmware (-->full of bugs) it can only play qvga DIVX, but you can convert to .mp4 720x480 and then stretch it to full screen with the "+" symbol on your arena.

I didn't try yet to play 800x480 files, sorry...

I was really interested in buying then Arena as it seems really impressive and i was intending to use it as a media player like i do with my viewty,but seeing as it probably won't even play a 400x240 divx file which my old viewty will easily play I'll might have to look elsewhere. How could Lg overlook such an aspect of the phone?!!

Maximum video size in any format even those recorded on phone is 720x480

I can save as AVI files on my viewty, and I hoped that the arena would do the same, but I can't seem to be able to. Any ideas please?

Gsmarena has just posted a hands on fairly extensive preview of the Lg viewty smart and it seems it too can only play divx files up to 320x240 resolution. Must just be Lg is not getting proper certification anymore. Mp4 it is so i guess!

User SUPER, I managed to create mp4 video files with DVD resolution (720x480) at a lowish bitrate and got quite decent results off tge exterbak miniSD card (4GB).

I had same prod with viewty smart, only runs 320 x240 divx vids and i found they wasn't very good, i now convert them with 600 bit video, 128 bit audio and 320x240 res and i am well impressed quality better than viewty which i had before. just add file to divx converter and modify settings very easy indeed still have to zoom to full screen but dvd quality picture.
