Default Unlocking & Jailbraking Guide For Windows

This will ONLY jailbreak 2.0, 2.0.1 & 2.0.2 firmware NOT The new 2.1 Firmware

MyGreatPhone or D900man does not except any responsiblity for bricked iPhones.
This will both UNLOCK & JAILBRAKE 2G (1st Gen) iPhones but only JAILBRAKE 3G iPhones

Step 1) Download winpwn, iTunes 7.7 or newer, bootloaders 3.9 and 4.6 if you need to unlock your 2g.

Step 2) Load winpwn. Note the app uses dotnet framework so if it crashes when you load it, make sure you have the latest dotnet framework installed and also that you are not running it on a network share due to dotnet security!

Step 3) Leave the defaults (basic mode). Click the phone device that matches your device and you see this screen next.

Step 4) Select the green thumbs up if you are using AT&T or an official carrier. If not, select the red thumbs down. The red thumbs down will unlock and activate while the green will not. Answer the rest of the questions in a similar manner. They are all quite straight forward.

Step 5) Select whether or not you want to use custom logos. This is entirely optional. We will say yes for this step just for the guide. If you do not care about custom logos, skip to step 8.

Step 6) Select your firmware. I recommend the newest.

Step 7) Select your logos by clicking the left or right device to select between boot logo (left) or restore logo (right). By default it is set to find a logo on your local disk. Click the yellow browse package button to change it to search online.

Clicking the device in search online mode lets you select online logos:

Step 8) If you selected that you are on a legit AT&T type carrier in step 4, skip this step. Otherwise, you probably will see this box:

Use the bootloaders that you downloaded in step #1 and hit the green thumbs up to find the files.

Browse for the files as needed:

Step 9) Now you will see this as you wait for your custom firmware to be built.

Step 10) Now you will be asked if you need help getting into DFU mode. There will be a helper in the app to get you there. If you have any problems here just use my DFU mode guide.

Step 10a) Turn off your phone. Hold power, slide to power off, and wait. When it is done, give the green thumbs up on this dialog:

Step 10b) Once it’s off, you will follow the steps to get into DFU mode. Press the buttons as the pictures tell you. If you do it right, it will be working even though you have no display on your phone!

Step 10c) Restore your phone in iTunes using the custom firmware you just made. Note, this firmware file is most likely in the “my documents” folder some place.

Thanks to BigBoss @ sleepers.net for the tutorial

couple of question - as i dont get my iphone (2g 8gb running 2.02) untill later...

    1) the guide says it fails to find BL-39.bin, i take it that the software tells you if it needs the 3.9 or 4.6 file - you dont need both do you?

    2) I take it ive got to install all of the iphone drivers etc PRIOR to connecting the iphone to my pc - or does putting into DFU mode essentially turn it into a mass storage device therefore negaiting the need for the iphone pc package??

    3) do i need to create an itunes account prior to starting all of this?

    4) If im changing the sim (which i am - to virgin mobile) how do i activate the phone using itunes (step 10c) - i wont be able to connect to the net untill i import the virin media web settings.... or do i do this while still connected to the PC??

    5) will everything above work on windows Vista 64?

Sorry for asking what may well be stupid questions - but someone has to

You need both the 3.9 and 4.6 bin files for the process

When you connect your iphone to the pc it will install the drivers for you, and also when you put it in dfu mode it will install more.

The iphone will not work as a mass storage device

You dont need a itunes account, but you will not be able to download app store apps without one

Winpwn will activate your iphone for you. you can add your settings on the iphone when its not connected to the pc

    5) will everything above work on windows Vista 64?

    Yeah it works fine

    Hiya mate

Ive followed the tutorial to the letter and im getting some issues.

Basically everything goes according to plan, untill i try to restore the phone in itunes (both 7.7 and 8.0)... when i restore i get an unknown error (1600) and i cant progress. The phone then gets locked in DFU and i have to restore back to 2.02 to gain use of the phone again.

..well - i say use of the phone, im with Virgin mobile - so i have no use of the phone at all - but you know what i mean!!

Im using vista 64 and when i try to restore using the custom firmware i get USB port errors pop up (the computer keeps making noises as if its just found the phone - and i get messages about using a 2.0 usb port - when i am!!)... yet when i restore to eithier 2.02 OR 2.1 i get no errors during the restore process!

Ive tried using winpwn 2.5 to create custom firmware in both expert mode and basic and i still get the same issue when I try to restore at the itunes stage.

can anyone help shed any light on this?

EDIT: managed to solve it - scrapped the idea of using winpwn because it was beating me - used Quickpwn instead and went through first time!

If only i'd tried this last night instead of getting 2 hours sleep!! lol

It depends on which version of the touch your getting as the latest 2G touch has yet to be jailbroken, but the dev team are working on it - codenamed "Redsn0w"

Actually you would be suprised to hear that besides downloading cracked apps, it is legal to jailbreak, it is just frowned upon by the networks and apple, but not illegal or it would have been shut down a long time ago
