New Main Website Launched

After 2 years of support we’ve realise that we do lots more than just support now. Many of you use us as a filter or all the hot news regarding mobile phones.

You look to us to remove all of the information that you’re not really interested inand just report cold hard facts about the mobile phones of today, and what they will do for you.

However, a forum just isn’t the best way to report news, by placing the articles into manufacturers categories people only see the news for their particular handset and miss all the interesting stuff about other handsets in the wild.

Creating a new framework

Taking this on board we’ve been hard at work creating this new front end to the site, especially for reporting news.


We’ve developed very clever scripts that parse the net several times a day looking for new posts about new and anticipated mobile phones so we can be sure we get the news as soon as, or even quicker than many of the big sites who employ full time journalists.

We also won’t just report for the sake of it. News has to be news worthy to make it to the site. If it isn’t interesting enough it just won’t make the cut. There are plenty of mediocre mobile website out there who will let you know about screen protectors and cases.

We’ve developed the new site around a heavily modified Wordpress framework. Most of you will be familiar with this kind of blogging system and so to comment you can use your existing Gravatar. We may in the future bridge the Forum membership with Wordpress so you can use these accounts, however if we did that right now you would lose some functionality.

This framework allows us to pass articles into the forum, and so you may have notices the nice new “News” forum at the top of the forum list. This is effectively a feed front the front-page and so feel free to comment on articles within the forum topics. We hope by having a real feed of news of everything Mobile related you won’t miss those important articles.

Forums

We have one unique selling point over many other mobile forums, that is our Theme developers and modifiers. For the record I think you guys are fantastic. You blow my mind with your creativity and I want to give you as much exposure as possible. Whenever you create a theme please let me know.

If it’s ground breaking it’s sure to make the frontpage of the site. With an estimates 10,000 unique visitors per day expected it should definitely earn you some serious Kudos.

I found out the front page had changed a while ago, although there wasn't a thread about it yet

It looks great and is much better than the original home page. Although i think you will be flooded with requests from people who would like their work featured in categories such as Customisation.

I prefer the original news page, it was easier to scroll through and have everything there for you to see. Rather than having to click on the title of the news you wish to view.

I also think the Tag Cloud could do with a bit of work, perhaps adding a slight transparency depending on the size and importance of the tag. This would look much better

Otherwise it looks....AWESOME

Also when i try to add a word to my post, a letter gets deleted with a every letter i type. Anyone know how to fix this?

ah its probably maximum number of letters being exceeded. I'll get the limit raised.

p.s. I'll be happy to report themes, it's an exciting part of this forum and is pretty much what it was built on. Even though i don't have a ku990 i still am amazed at the themes in production and try out many in flash.

No its not the limit, i can happily add words to the end of my posts. Although if i add them before another letter, the letter i am typing behind is deleted and replaced with the letter i have typed.

As always excellent work Daz. I have spoken to a number of members who wanted to see this and now they have it, great stuff.

Oh, and concerning the problem stated above, I have noticed this too, but not every time, just tried it now on my iPhone and i could not recreate it, but it has happened in the past.
