Premium Content and advertising through MyGreatPhone

Hi,

It's come to me attention that some users have been selling premium content through this site in private subscriber schemes or other ways.

My Great Phone is a mobile community, much of what people know here, has been learnt through the site itself. It is therefore not ethical to sell this information back to users.

No user has been given permission to advertise and sell their files back to users. None of this money goes to help run the site and is also illegal in that most themes are decompiles of LG's source. It's one thing hacking the firmware to make it more functional, to then resell it is very illegal and also unethical.

We have advertisers that pay us to have banners on this site, this helps cover the £170 server costs I pay each month, but it doesn't actually cover the costs.

If you wish to use MGP as a platform to sell items or to promote your business then you must contact me to discuss the fees of doing this. If you currently are offering these services without permission, I advise you to edit your posts before I find them.

If you've been paying into private subscriber schemes and do not currently sponsor the sites running in any way, shame on you.

I'm actually pretty upset that a few trusted users have felt the need to try and make a quick buck out of the site that has helped them in so many ways. I don't charge you to come here and read all this content and download the community themes in fact I put allowances in place to make sure everybody gets the same quality service for free.

To be honest I'm actually so upset, considering nobody clicks the ads any more and that I actually usually run this site at a loss that I'll be seriously thinking now about switching it all off. I was happy to run it as people were sharing and putting resources back into the pot, but this has all been undermined.

I don’t have money to sponsor this great site (but I can click the ads )...or for premium content etc!

Please let me make it clear I'm not asking anybody to click the ads. Adsense are very strict on their rules and procedures. I was thinking that will help this! Again hope that this situation will be resolved! This is a great site!

Adsense are very strict on their rules and procedures and you are definitely not allowed to ask or even suggest that people click ads. You either click them or you don't, it's your prerogative, we only make revenue when they are clicked though.

I'm simply stating that the ads are there and provide the only current revenue stream for this site.

I have no plans to start charging for content, I believe this site should remain free for all to use and to benefit from.

The only reason this has brought up now was because a few helpful guys pm'ed me suggesting improvements to the premium content feature to help the site generate even more revenue, believing that the premium content was a feature of the site and not a renegade project.
