Samsung Unpacked – launching June 15th – Omnia 2 / I8000?

Not a lot is known about this mysterious handset, only that it’s due to be released or unveiled at a PR event in London on June 15th.

The website is suitably cryptic, showing an x ray of the handset where only a camera, battery and some key locations can be made out. Is it a candybar QWERTY or a touchscreen? Who knows, All we can say is that Samsung have a really sweet viral campaign going on and we suspect it’s to launch the Omnia 2 or I8000.

For the next 5 days a layer of a “box” is unwrapped on their website, the unwrapper winning the handset on launch day, each unwraps supposedly reveals a different location.

Unveiling is June 15th (Monday) 6pm, while we can’t be sure we think this could be a “recently leaked” Omnia 2 or I8000 as it’s also known.

The photo above was recently leaked and reported by Techtree.cm and is apparently the I8000. Here are their suspected specs:

Samsung l8000 will sport a 3.7-inch AMOLED (Active-matrix Organic Light-emitting Diode) touch screen, 8.1 megapixel camera, Windows Mobile 6.5 (we doubt it’s Windows Mobile 6.1) and the usual connectivity options including 3G. Omnia2’s 3.7-inch WVGA TFT resistive AMOLED screen would be fantastic to view images captured by the 8.1 megapixel camera with dual LED Flash. This 8.1 megapixel camera supports VGA@30mbps recording, carries 150MB internal memory with microSD slot for expansion and an unspecified Qualcomm CPU.

Advanced web experience would be provided via 3G and Wi-Fi support along with the GPS option. Omnia2 thankfully offers Bluetooth as well. Further, rumors suggest that Samsung’s TouchWiz interface over Windows Mobile OS would be heavily customized and also bring in DivX/XviD support.

If the specs are as above, this could be very popular, however i hope thre’s a QWERTY under there somewhere.
